Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions are grouped by the decisions applicants, hosts, and referees most often needed to make.

Eligibility

Who could apply in 2026?

The Fellowship welcomed applicants worldwide, including scholars, postdoctoral researchers, visiting researchers, and research-oriented designers, artists, educators, and creative technologists.

Was a doctorate required?

Applicants were normally expected to hold a doctorate, a recognized terminal professional degree, or an equivalent record of advanced research and professional practice. Postdoctoral applicants had to hold a doctorate and separately meet host-institution appointment requirements.

Could teams apply?

Applications were submitted by individuals. Projects could involve collaborators, but the Fellowship was awarded to the selected applicant under the individual Award Letter.

Host environment

What counted as a host environment?

A university, research institution, laboratory, academic platform, or other credible environment appropriate to the proposed work.

What host evidence was requested?

Existing affiliates provided appointment or research-affiliation evidence. Applicants proposing a new host provided an offer, invitation, or acceptance where available, or substantive correspondence and a status explanation when arrangements were still developing.

Fellowship support

How much support was available?

For a full 12-month Fellowship, the standard framework included USD 7,500 per month and up to USD 10,000 in approved additional support, with total support of up to USD 100,000.

Was USD 100,000 guaranteed to every selected applicant?

No. It was the maximum standard structure for a full 12-month Fellowship. The final period, amount, and payment arrangements are confirmed in the individual Award Letter.

Application materials

What was included in the application PDF?

Curriculum vitae, research proposal, personal statement, three representative works, and host-environment information with available supporting documentation.

How were references submitted?

Two referees sent their letters separately and directly to the Program email address by the application deadline.

Selection and notification

How were applications assessed?

The process included eligibility review, expert assessment, online interview where needed, committee deliberation, and individual notification and award coordination.

When did notifications begin?

Individual selection notifications began on July 10, 2026, using the email addresses provided in the applications.

Research and public exchange

What forms could research outputs take?

Depending on the question, outputs may include publications, prototypes, exhibitions, archives, films, educational models, research tools, material resources, or public projects.

Was Forum participation confirmed for every applicant?

No. Forum participation and related public activities are communicated separately when plans and individual arrangements are confirmed.
